Talks about reopening the Lichfield to Derby line continue this month. Michael Fabricant MP for Lichfield has confirmed that he recently had discussions with the newly appointed Minister of State, Huw Merriman. Lichfield Live reports that meetings took place to discuss the reinstatement of passenger services from Lichfield to Burton-upon-Trent, as well as the creation of a station at Alrewas to service the National Memorial Arboretum.

Michael Fabricant confirms his hopes that Huw Merriman will visit the area in the New Year to discuss these plans further, and take a significant step towards running passenger services from Lichfield to Burton and beyond. This was further discussed in the House of Commons with the request that the Prime Minister visit the National Memorial Arboretum again and see the proposed site for a station at Alrewas.
